It’s exciting moving into a new apartment. You’re starting a new chapter of your life and hosting a summer party is the perfect way to celebrate family and friends. Instead of just having everyone over for a typical BYOB party, make it fun with a themed party with these awesome ideas.

Stock-The-Bar Party

Food is the biggest expense for Americans who throw summer parties, according to a 2017 survey, The Ultimate Summer Party Guide. So once you’re done buying all the food, your bank account may be feeling a little stretched. Save on cash by having your guests handle the drinks at a stock-the-bar party. This party is perfect for two reasons: it takes some of the pressure off you and let’s your guests will feel like they’re contributing to this new step in your life.

If you don’t have a bar, go the DIY route and make one yourself. Get some fun ideas from Pinterest’s Alcohol Cabinet section, where you’ll find all kinds of ideas, perfect for every décor and apartment size.

Community Pool Party

Don’t just invite your family and friends to celebrate your new move. Host a community pool party at your apartment complex’s pool for a day of fun in the sun. The best part is you get to meet your new neighbors without opening your apartment to everyone.

Instead of bringing food and drinks so many people, many of whom will be coming and going throughout the day, bring fun water accessories and poolside games for everyone to use. Invest in a few of these fun and trendy pool floats (think: unicorns, pineapples and swans) and bring a few classic games like Corn Hole. You can even supply everyone with coolers so they can keep their own food and drinks cold.

Paint-A-Room Party

You can’t make many changes to a rented apartment, but in most cases you can paint the walls as long as you agree to paint them back. Instead of doing all the work by yourself, invite your friends to help. Everyone can get the painting done while catching up with one another and checking out your new place.

To thank them for helping, and turn this into a party, buy everyone the classic “thanks for helping” munchies and drinks: pizza, soda and beer. When the painting is done, head outside for a few sunset drinks to let your apartment air out.

Summer Terrace (Or Roof) Party

If you’re lucky enough to have a terrace, patio or roof access, use this as a chance to throw an epic summer party while showing your friends the coolest part of your new apartment: that amazing outdoor space. Provide summer cocktails—check out this list from Delish to get some ideas—and a few small finger foods for everyone to nosh on.

Don’t forget the most important part: the music. Create a playlist you know everyone will love, or find a pre-made playlist on Spotify. With a little music, booze and snacks, your summer terrace party will be one to remember.

Burn the Boxes Party

Empty boxes are a hassle, so after unpacking, host a burn the boxes party. Not only will you get rid of the clutter in your new apartment, but you and you friends can also enjoy a perfect summertime bonfire.

Make the party BYOB and, instead of providing alcohol, bring all the ingredients for smores: marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers. Don’t forget to find sticks or buy skewers in advance and put out chairs so everyone can relax around the fire all night long.

A summer party is the perfect way to celebrate your new home. Use these fun ideas to host an event your friends will never forget. You’ll love celebrating with your favorite people and they’ll enjoy being a part of this next chapter in your life.
